"Dutch Warm Blood Horse with Young Woman Rider Weathervane" The Warmblood horse weathervane was made using copper and brass (no gold leaf) so as the weathervane weathers the contrast between the reddish copper tones and the yellower brass tones will become more subtle, as opposed to the image on the right where the gold leaf yellow tones will stay a shiny golden color. The original version of this design was commissioned by a husband for his wife. Their daughter who is an excellent equestrian has just left for college and the mother missed her greatly. Now when she looks out her window towards the barn, it brings her daughter to mind and puts a smile on her face. An interesting thing about this particular design is that it is composed of 2 distinct elements, the horse and the girl. Normally in a 3-foot horse weathervane the horse would be 3 feet in size, however in this 3-foot weathervane, the horse is closer to 2 feet in size. In the case where a weathervane has more than one subject you may sometimes need to go a larger size than you would if the weathervane consisted of only one design element.

We are one of only a handful of artists anywhere in the world producing handcrafted copper weather vanes. Our specialty is doing custom design work and portrait weather vanes. We use the difficult ‘free form’ and ‘repoussé’ techniques to create these high quality sculptures. No molds are used so each piece is slightly different from any others that we make. Because each one is finely crafted and completely unique, they will very probably become collector’s items that should increase in value as they age and acquire their lovely and distinctive greenish patina.
