American Contemporary

Companions are freestanding painted wooden silhouettes which are contemporary versions of pieces created in the European Royal Courts of the 17th and 18th centuries. They were primarily used to give the illusion of more guests at an affair, and so they became known as Companions.

Rollin has created a spanning collection of contemporary Companions. They now reside in numerous locations including, Paris, London, New York, Palm Beach, Key West, and many other international locales.

Rollin’s trademark images are recognizable both for style and content. Images often kind-heartedly lampoon the rich while harkening back to the era of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Nick and Nora and the early New Yorker years of Peter Arno. Her style is agile, playful, formal and wry. The work is largely conceptual and at the same time lends an air of whimsy and grace to some of the most prosaic of subjects.

While Rollin’s work has been shown in galleries in Paris, New York, Barcelona, Key West, and for several years in West Palm Beach, the bulk of her production is aimed at national newspapers, magazines and book publishers. Rollin has had weekly illustrations for years in the New York Times and the Washington Post, and has had frequent contributions to Vanity Fair, Newsweek, Forbes, U.S. News & World Report, Glamour, Esquire, GQ, Vogue and Nickelodeon among many others. She has also received several distinguished awards in publishing.

Rollin was born in Bronxville, New York. She went to art school at The Eastbourne College of Art, England, and graduated from Parsons School of Design, New York. She currently hails from Wellington Florida with her two Jack Russells.

These original fine art companion/portraits are created from high quality wood and acrylics which bring Rollin’s whimsical illustrations to life. All the portraits are unique, and can be custom designed to the clients needs. The final work is stylish and timeless, and adorns a space beautifully.
