Brett, Brittany

American Contemporary

Brittany Brett, of Manhattan, has focused on equine paintings for over a decade. Through her signature use of oils, love of anatomy and virtuosity she continuously captivates her viewers.

Her equine work studies their behavior, anatomy and energy. The art is expressed through the influences of Rubens, Leonardo, Stubbs, Rothko, Caravaggio and Turner. In Brett’s art, the horses natural state of ‘flight or fight’ in the reptilian brain is taken into consideration. Compassion between the horse and human is brought to light. In respect for it’s ability to be trained by man, the horse often represents the athlete.

Brett was born in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. In 2008, she graduated from the The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a BFA in Photography and Painting. Brittany competed for four years on the SCAD Intercollegiate Varsity Equestrian Team. She is a member of the International Equine Art Association. Her work has been shown in galleries from Florida, Georgia, New York City and the Hamptons to an International exhibition in France. She was the 2012 Hampton Classic poster artist. Paintings have been featured in ‘Hamptons Magazine,’ two covers of ‘Dan’s Papers,’ SCAD Equine Studies brochures and as an invitation for The Palm Beach Easter Seals Kentucky Derby Day Party. In 2011 Brittany Brett designed the official ‘TurtleFest’ poster for The Loggerhead Marine life Center of Juno Beach, Florida.

Athletic Fusion
This painting depicts the sport of Polo, which demands strength and endurance. A crucial moment in the game is captured; an emphasis on balance is encompassed. The weight is pressed into the dark foreground while a sense of movement is felt with the swinging mallet. The concentration of the two agile subject matters are present.
