Connecting past and present with dashes of magical realism, my illustrations portray a contemporary sensibility that alternates between social satire and the small town bonhomie of yesteryear. The search is for light, lightness and energy — for the hidden understanding of things — all in hopes that a simple drawing can galvanize thoughts which were formerly obstructed. – Rollin McGrail

Rollin McGrail’s trademark images are recognizable both for style and content. Images often kind-heartedly lampoon the rich while harkening back to the era of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Thorn Smiths Topper TV series, the films of Nick and Nora, and the early New Yorker years of Peter Arno.

Rollin’s style is agile, playful, formal and wry. The work is largely conceptual and at the same time lends an air of whimsy and grace to some of the most prosaic of subjects.

Rollin’s work has been shown in galleries from Paris to New York,  Barcelona to Key West, and for the past several years in West Palm Beach and Wellington. The bulk of her production is aimed at national newspapers, magazines and book publishers. Rollin has had weekly illustrations for years in the New York Times and the Washington Post, and has had frequent contributions to Vanity Fair, Newsweek, Forbes, U.S. News & World Report, Glamour, Esquire, GQ, Vogue and Nickelodeon among many others. Her illustrations have appeared in best seller books including TOASTS for Crown publishing and the PLEASURE OF YOUR COMPANY  from Clarkson N. Potter and BRIGHT HUNTING MORN: THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RADNOR HUNT from the Derrydale Press. She has also received several distinguished awards from the publishing. industry.

Rollin hails from New York and attended art school in England, graduating from Parsons School of Design, New York. She creates her one-of-a-kind illustrations in a whirlwind of a studio in the heart of her colourful Wellington, Florida home.

While money can’t buy happiness, it certainly lets you choose your own form of misery.
