Monica Acee paints a variety of subjects in watercolor, specializing in human and equine portraits. Using a time-consuming method of layering paint adds depth and luminosity to her work while allowing her to maintain a contemporary feel.  The translucent layers, slowly added, help convey the layers of personality of those depicted in her portraits.  To further reveal the character of her subjects, she often uses complex settings in her paintings.  It is the richness of color and attention to detail that sets her work apart.

Monica’s paintings have been included in many national exhibitions and have received numerous awards.  Her artwork has graced the covers of several magazines and has appeared in many publications, including the book The Best of Portrait Painting.  Her portraits have been included in news stories on CNN, NBC’s Today show and other television shows.  One of her equine paintings was featured on the 1997 Hampton Classic Horse Show poster and was the first ever to sell out during the week of the show.  She was among a select few invited to display her work alongside the paintings of Andrew Wyeth and Philip Pearlstein in the “Face of America” – an exhibition devoted to outstanding portraits in watercolor.  Her paintings grace numerous collections both domestically and abroad.
