Growing up in a bilingual household in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Michael Poncé considered art his native language. Painting and drawing gave voice to the beauty and solitude that captivated him as he explored the Mesilla Valley on horseback. Recording his impressions of the Southwest proved a lifelong passion as he pursued the disciplines of fine art and illustration in academia.

Many years later, Poncé now translates the intimacy and equipoise central to his southwestern compositions into his signature figurative works. Recognized in the New York City art community for the movement and emotion captured by his rich palette and lively brushwork, he has also charmed domestic and European equestrians with his vivid studies of horse racing, polo and equitation. Drawing strength and inspiration from his Mescalero Apache heritage, Poncé creates sophisticated images that invigorate all of the senses and enhance the viewer’s perspective.
