Russian Contemporary

Elena Erős was born in Moscow, Russia. Her first art teacher was an internationally known artist, A. Motovilov. As a young girl she had her first riding experiences in “Trud” riding stables, where she observed some world famous horsemen and women. In 1971, she competed with hundreds of other talented young artists and won a coveted place at the Faculty of Applied Art, Moscow, State University of Design and Technology, where she studied under renowned Russian artists.

In 1973, Erős was awarded an “Outstanding Student International Scholarship,” enabling her to continue her education at the Hungarian University of Design in Budapest, where she accomplished her MA in Fashion Design. In 1980, she was invited to teach at the Moscow State University of Design & Technology.

Later, Erős returned to Budapest, where she worked as a Fashion Designer, Trend Coordinator, Illustrator at Hungarian Fashion Institute, Portrait Artist in Residence for Hungarian Medical Society and a background painter for Pannonia Film Studios.

Erős moved to Windsor, UK in 1996. She became a frequent visitor to a local Race Course and numerous Equine Events along with her sketchbook and camera. Erős was asked to paint Ascot Race Courses. Once, standing on the balcony at the end of the racing day, she looked down and saw a “flowing river of hats.” Erős was inspired and her decorative “Hats” series were born. Her unique perspective & stylized impressionistic interpretation of spectators and horses became a unique feature of her equine art.

Erős came to the USA in 2006. She won an International Drawing Competition for the American Artist Magazine, where a portrait of her father was published in the winter issue of 2006. Erős gained education in Fine Arts in Russia (following great traditions of Russian Realism & Impressionism) and Fashion Design in Hungary, which allowed her to stylize and interpret. She combines the experience of a classically trained fine artist with fresh uniqueness of an inventive designer & couturier. Elena Erős exhibits nationally and internationally, while her paintings are in numerous collections worldwide.
